Residents learn more about the progress of new Shellharbour Hospital

Residents recently had the opportunity to learn about the progress of the new Shellharbour Hospital at an onsite ‘Meet the Builder’ event.

The event provided a chance for attendees to meet the project team and get an up-close look at how the hospital will be constructed.

The project team provided a presentation, offering residents an overview of the project's progress, followed by the opportunity to ask questions about the new hospital. The session was led by BESIX Watpac, the main works construction contractor.

Health Infrastructure Senior Project Director Dominic Longo highlighted the importance of continuing to keep local residents informed as the project progresses.

“It’s important for us to continue our ongoing liaison with our neighbours and keeping them well-informed,” Dominic said.

“As construction progresses, we want to ensure surrounding residents are kept up to date of what’s happening on-site.”

BESIX Watpac Senior Project Manager Mark Cahalin shared the same sentiment, calling it a great opportunity for both the community and the project team.

“Events such as this ensures that we are connecting with our neighbours while working directly alongside them,” Mark said.

“It's a great chance for neighbours to ask any questions they might have directly to the team."

BESIX Watpac is an Australian builder that has delivered nearly 90 hospital projects nationwide. This includes the St George Hospital Stage 3 Redevelopment, currently under construction, as well as the completed Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital Stage 2 Redevelopment and Port Macquarie Base Hospital Expansion.

BESIX Watpac was awarded the main works construction contract for the new Shellharbour Hospital in August 2024. Construction is expected to be completed in 2027.

Construction continues to progress rapidly, marked by the recent arrival of the first tower crane - a major milestone for the project.
